Sherlocking in qwerty

Sometimes we get messages mixed into the mass confusion, that further unravel what can be referred to as The Mystery. Below, I'm quoting a few of these *recent messages, numbered so we can read into each one individually:
1. ...while what we do here in cyberspace has a valuable function in terms of education, support, and founding of virtual communities, the heavy lifting that creates real change can probably only be done outside the digital realm. ... It is for this reason I believe much is allowed to be circulated that otherwise would never be tolerated...

2. ...There are those small voices of reason and then there is a great wasteland of confusion moving toward irrevocable adjustment.

Seek out the concentrations of light. Move away from the centers of darkness. I can think of no other advice. That rough beast is on the move.

3. ...Missing from this equation is the entire real world of life and death, the suffering and struggling that goes on each and every single day to simply retain the most basic right of all, applied to all things on planet Earth — the right to exist. This is a basic right to all things, the right to exist without coercion or exploitation. But it is not a right that is recognized, honored or respected — or even acknowledged.

4. ...If you want to go on thinking that you're the ONLY person your (insert: bank, insurance company, doctor, credit card holder, home builder, employer, etc., etc, etc,) is ripping off you are entitled to that opinion. You are probably wrong and a quick Google search will show you how you are wrong. Corporations hold no goal more dearly than eliminating easy anonymity on the internet. So they can attack those who snitch on their bullshit.
If you want to keep believing that your problems are all your fault go for it. Get off the internet and sulk in your corner. Make a CEO happy.

5. ...in one instance at Philadelphia's Franklin Mall there was protest. If you can call it that. A group of masked protestors delivered a "symbolic complaint," in a brief and scripted "protest rally." They pre-designated a few persons among them to be arrested (for refusal to disperse). Delivering the arrestees to the police upon arrival, everybody then quietly left the mall. "It was a symbolic action," explained one of the protestors, who added, "Oh god, I'm not supposed to speak without permission of the group!"

6. ...There's something happenin' here What it is ain't exactly clear....-- Buffalo Springfield One of main reasons behind the vast confusion now reigning in the USA, our failure to construct a coherent consensus about what is happening to us (or what to do about it), is our foolish obsession with econometrics -- viewing the world solely through the "lens" of mathematical models. ...

First, in order to solve any crime, we'll need to be in agreement illegal activity has taken place vs. a natural evolution of BAU (business as usual). Some of you might want to say "Its always been this way." or "It was bound to happen and just gets worse." We'll need to microscope what "it" is and what exactly occurred, that is if you think something out of the ordinary occurred. When I say something out of the ordinary I am saying beyond the pale, nefarious, systematically working to envelop and dismantle simultaneously. I want to know what we've got here and where its leading, and why. I want to know who or what is responsible. I want to know what we think about our present situation.

By a miracle over which I have no control, very smart, insightful people come here. For this reason, today and over the next few days, I invite you to try to explain your take. I've seen a lot of takes, we all have, its fine if you subscribe to a take we've already heard. Some of you have already stated your piece, feel free to expand. I'm all ears. I realize there might be some paranoia, but it is this paranoia that keeps the mystery in place. If it helps, I don't read code, but I'm not bad at metaphors.

Sure, I'll jump in and toss some more words at our dilemma. I deal with personal opinions shaped by my experience and intuition, so there is very little room for blaming the "other" or hanging my hat on any ideology. Make mine the dancer's path, for whatever that is worth. My story is probably pretty standard fare these days anyhow, so let me know if you've heard this one before.

First, I'll tell you what happened to me, and then I'll finger the perps as I see them.

So, I went along with the "meet a girl, make a baby, get a good job, buy a house, grow old together and pass all your goodies on to the next generation" model that was shown to me and touted as the "American Dream". We even kept the overhead low so we could have mom at home to raise up them babies, and it was all good for a while.

After a few years of this and another kid into the mix, I lost both my parents in an 18 month span, I discovered I was ill, had major surgery, got fired from my job because I couldn't lift heavy shit all day anymore after my medical misadventure, watched my neighborhood be taken over by speculators, flippers, gangsters, and slum lords, bought a different house in a better 'hood with an early "inheritance", watched the real estate market tumble, lost the first house to foreclosure because it wouldn't sell and went from appraised at 140k to selling for less than 60K (back to the bank who owned the note - they bought it from themselves) in 3 years, went bankrupt as a result, and watched the value of our current home fall to the point that it will be difficult to walk away with anything significant when we sell (if we can sell it)even after putting 120k down this time.

In the middle of all this I discovered the internet, read a bunch of things outside of the mainstream media, trolled the depths of despair and used WhatReallyHappened and The Truthseeker daily to fuel my sense of impending doom, engaged in furious retail therapy buying guitars, amps and pedals on Ebay, sold most of them after realizing it wasn't helping me be creative but was, in fact, counterproductive and soul-crushing, discovered Les Visible and the work of many brilliant people I would otherwise never have heard of, our amazing host included, lost my mind, found it again and now find myself at the point where I am in the midst of selling everything I own save for a couple guitars, a bicycle and some books, loading the kids up in a van stuffed full of camping gear and blind optimism, and hitting the road for however long it takes to find the place where we hope to settle down, live a simple life close to nature and amongst new friends and new family, and never contribute one cent or bead of sweat to the machine that was intent on grinding us up and spitting our bones out when we were spent.

Whew. I played by the rules, and got my ass handed to me. Thank you for that, whoever is responsible.

I made it to the pinnacle. I live in a wealthy suburb, surrounded by beautiful people with equally beautiful cars and grand homes, on the end of my little cul-du-sac with all the perfect lawns and perfect surroundings. My wife has the job now, swimming in the corporate legal department of a large local medical device company where she recently was "tagged" as someone who is being groomed to move up the ladder towards more pay, more responsibility, more stress, more travel, and less freedom. Oh, and she would then get to answer directly to the folks with the GW Bush photos on the wall instead of just a bunch of stressed-out lawyers.

We made it, but now see "it" for the deathtrap that it is. None of it is sustainable, and it should NOT be because it leads to too much sacrifice and self denial. Oh, and a fair chunk of our labor is skimmed off the top to support struggling bankers and stock market types, and to kill people all across the globe in the name of freedom or some such horseshit. I'm just not O.K. with that and will no longer support it with our labor. Pardon the language, but fuck THAT! We are not going to play that game any longer. There is a certain sense of danger in our next intended move, but the danger present in staying put and hoping to make what we are doing now is certain, so we go now into the realm of no home address and no certain destination. It feels like freedom so far.

Some would call us crazy at this point in our economic history to voluntarily leave a "secure" job (whatever that is) with high pay and "great" benefits, to cast off on some idealistic quest to find our own Shangri-la somewhere, but I think those that simply hunker down and expect this rough patch to pass and for the boom times to return are the absolutely insane ones. My eyes and heart have been opened, and there is no going back anymore. Please wish us luck in our seeking. We do this for more than our own benefit as well. If 2 high-school dropouts can find our way here with only intent and some luck along the way, than we can hopefully find the alternative we seek with equal ease. I just hope it isn't a mirage as well when we get there.

As for the responsible party, I blame myself only, with an assist to those that presented that honey-sweet lure and trap that we fell into to steal the fruits of our labor. I allowed myself to be duped, and to be seduced by the illusion of material gain over self-inquiry, and paid a heavy price. At least it was only money and goods, and the lessons learned were priceless. That a certain segment at the very top of the chain were enriched at my expense is only a symptom of a wider malady, and I willingly played a game where I didn't understand the rules or the nature of who I was playing with, and it was game-over before it really began. I only have myself to blame, but am truly grateful for the lessons.

I hope to have something far more valuable to pass on to my girls when I leave - the knowledge of how to follow the right signs and to be as self-sufficient as possible. They already know what it looks like to be wealthy and completely blinded by the bright, shiny things - they see it in their schoolmates and friends, and they are drawn to it powerfully. They think that they see their dream there, only because that is what is right in front of them. It is time to put up some new things for them to consider I think. Let's see how they take to the other side of the coin. The mask has been torn off and there will be no returning to the land of make-believe for us.

Sorry to have no answers or keen insight. I don't even have a particular God to recommend as the best, just a warm and fond wish for something better, something REAL, and the desire to make new friends and to welcome new allies on this mission. See you on the road, soon.

God, that was long and rambling. I'm sorry for that - I should have just said that I was fooled for a while by crazy people that are now going to try and kill most of us because there is nothing left to take (they have it all or have promised to someone else), so I'm running away, but, you know, that sounds paranoid and insane.

"Running away" is just a phrase from lingering conditioning, enlisting victim's participation in blaming the other victims, as in "runaway slaves", disassociating the criminals from their crimes. It seems more realistic to say you are leaping towards rebirth into a sensible life. You should go somewhere really amazing that you'll never get tired of or feel victimized again. Somewhere exciting. You might not have this opportunity later on. It appears the same old story is just going to continue to play out indefinitely in the western world. Nothing has really stopped it from changing this course. They can put all the fall guys they want in prison and the root survives intact, encouraged and arrogant, to see another day. Your post is just agonizing to read and yet there you are, still standing. I've said before it speaks for your strength of character, but try not to extend the suffering. The faster you can get on with your plans, the better off your family will be. Something could happen out of the blue to prevent your goal from fruition. Do you really have to be where you are to sell the house? I might as well be asking Stacy the same question. Is it not possible the scheme is designed to keep you in place, bankrupt and perpetually victimized? Despite the green shoots stories and despite the happy talk of recovery? I think you have a long wait ahead if you're tying your plans to someone else's ability to secure lending. You have the internet to stay in touch with a real estate broker.

I was sitting by the stream in the park this afternoon. From behind I heard a whispered "excuse me, excuse me". The hungry child inquired as to when the free meal is held in the park. Her male companion stood silently a few feet away. I made sure someone showed up at the appointed place and time with some food and was prepared to hand over my nine bucks in cash if they didn't. All I have to add is the word verification for this comment:

"pestron"

I believe the only measure of wealth that matters is in how much we share.

Zoner,
wow.
Did you really convince your wife to go on the road? If so, we need to hang out over a beer sometime soon so you can let me know how you did it.
Well, my wife wants to get out of here too, but her idea is just a bit too full of expense and luxury extras yet... she hasn't hit the wall psychologically yet, as I have.
Regardless, good for you and good luck.

Nina - I would have just walked away, but my area hasn't been hit yet, by economic woe. The houses are still selling, and this gives me time to finish getting my ducks in a row.

RW, I admit I saw your post before calling it a night. I take it very seriously. You've identified and shared with us the very heart of the matter. I, for one, am grateful. You can name any issue, any area of conflict, any wrongdoing, difficult relationship or situation, small or large and there it is. Thank you.

Aww Publius, sound like you need to take on a little more debt. Pile it on. Make sure the creditors have free access to your household and workplaces at all hours. Designate your wife to handle all of it. Feign laryngitis. Tape every credit interaction with your new filmmaker's supercam, replay it nonstop on the 72" plasma imbedded above the granite countertops overflowing with final notices. After six months of spree, invite the sheriff and repo men over to get acquainted with your family. Make sure you tape it.

Stacy, maybe the evil forces decided you had enough pain already and inexplicably to ordinary mortals, exempted you from further punishment?
Love, outchon

Nina_My response ran long so it's posted on my blog. An excerpt, caught mid-stream as it were:

"While ever increasing amounts of information are available fewer people than ever have any clue as to know what to do with it. As Joe Bageant and many other writers are pointing out our brains are being jammed as if thinking were a speech by Fidel Castro. We are being advertised, game-boy'd, porn'd, caffeinated, televised, entertained, sugared, salted, I-podded and cell phoned into the chair bound critter from the Wall-E movie. All of this leads to cascades of bad decisions that pile up on each other like freeway traffic in tule fog. We can hear the crashing in the distance but we can't see the shape of the wreckage.

It's BAD people. We FUCKED UP. Climate Change is real and is rolling downhill. Our food supply is dependent upon ever-increasing supplies of oil. The oil supply has topped out and is decreasing. Our medical system ignores fundamental facts about how bacteria and viruses work. We have about a billion young men in the world who can't support wives; a billion potential soldiers. Only a tiny few of understand jack about defusing anger, stress, trauma and sexual violence. The really nasty bit is the lubrication, the money, that has kept the machine working to date, the american dollar, is turning from the oil of commerce to the sand in the gears."

Sorry, so sorry, unscheduled channel change. Please return to your regular scheduled entity.......

Nina asks for detail and I go on a rant about vision. The details are out there. They are everywhere. But without the ability to perceive that the black and white kitty is a skunk, without the concept of skunk, we only see kitty. Even when our noses keep telling us something is very wrong.

Somebody said a meeting with George Bush was like watching a blind man listening to a conversation among deaf people. Right now, most of us do that.

thanks for the fun poem/lyrics Chickory.
What's up with the world?
I need another vacation... my job allows me constant access to the web.
Not healthy.
I really need to be a builder: boatbuilder or something. A sailor. A lurker in the woods and fields and streams. Thoreau was right about the newspapers (and web and radio etc.)

Hey, wait a minute, I thought Chickory's poem was a country music song and I felt a little guilty for not recognizing it. But it is her own, very clever and lyrical work. Chickory, your range never ceases to amaze me.
It would be a good song, too, something the Dixie Chicks could flesh out with pedal steel.
