Do take a minute to visit the Archdruid Report. I'll still be here when you get back.
... This becomes especially problematic in times like the present, when apocalyptic prophecy is a central trope in the popular culture that frames a people’s hopes and fears for the future. When the collective imagination becomes obsessed with the dream of a sudden cataclysm that sweeps away the old world overnight and ushers in the new, even relatively rapid social changes can pass by unnoticed. The twilight years of Rome offer a good object lesson; so many people were convinced that the Second Coming might occur at any moment that the collapse of classical civilization went almost unnoticed; only a tiny handful of writers from those years show any recognition that something out of the ordinary was happening at all. ...This isn't the kind of thing you can just discuss openly, speech is free up to a point. Rather, you instinctively know or you don't. If you suspected, there is no longer any reason to doubt your own senses. Feeling crazy, depressed, insecure or anxious and experiencing stress manifesting in paranoia are all issues of the human being failing to trust his own judgment.
Time is speeding up because the jig, for the most part, is up. It will go on however. In slow motion, the divide opens into an impassable chasm with more desperate events packed into days, now hours and segments of hours. The wheel seems slow on the outside, the closer to the center, the faster it spins. Today Karma is having its way with a horrific snowstorm over the mid-Atlantic region not seen since 1922. No Dinnergate crashers tonight. Good thing Maliki isn't in town or he'd be veering into hypothermia waiting in the First Vegetable Garden.
Cruising the news is very much like holding a mirror over the page. You get different stories. Like Charlie Sheen and his stolen SUV. What are we seeing? Balloon Boy, Tiger Woods, John Edwards, now Sheen. These little smut mentions have in common a tale with open-ended punchlines. Suddenly, they burst upon us and remain with us like mosquitoes at sundown in the swamp. Do we have to wait to be spoon fed truth? Stupid is easy, but stupid and force feeding twenty four hours a day is something else, it will trip you up because stupid is a primary weapon in the war against the human spirit. Its easy to to minimize the signs, but you might have noticed the vehicles are having a few issues. And there is a little problem, nothing serious, with misspeaking and retractions, oh, nothing to get excited about ... who is controlling these gaps in reality? Who exactly determines where and when retractions are necessary? And the criteria is?
I get the idea health reform is cooked. Can they do nothing else but war? Does there have to always be a winner and a loser? Can they do anything right? Can they do anything wrong, right?
I don't know how this will play out over time. Predictions are dire, as you know, but meaningless in that all we have is now and now is uncharted territory.
... The years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searching
Searching for shelter again and again
Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter against the wind
Well those drifter's days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out
Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind ...

... who is controlling these gaps in reality? We control the horizontal, and the vertical ... and just who are we?, I hear you ask. Self-explanatory I would have thought, dear Watson—
............... uncensored auto-written ..............
entrenched entitlement + greed, easily fooled by gold salesmen masquerading as missionairies, capitalizing on The burgeoning Apocalypse industry—now!—predators ... greedy, self-aggrandizing corrupt ole bastards.
... but, that's how we roll, homies.
Just pay the price amerikans—war solved

“There's too much tendency to attribute to God the evils that man does of his own free will.” ~
Agatha Christie (1890-1976)
I don't know ... WHAT wuz I thinking?

What to leave out, and what to leave in...
If life has taught me anything, it's that evil is patient.

Sharpen your blade - the diamond cutter of clear awareness. Forward into the Great Kali Yuga!
Congratulations on your blog Baz! Its just right for these times, True Blood and all. The Colin McCahon painting you chose to display is shockingly similar to one of mine, I'll send it over today when I pull it off the CD.
Thank you for your contributions, may it be a way to unburden yourself into peace of mind.
All the best.
PS I tried to post this on Baz Recon Blog, but it wouldn't take. Little kinks soon fixed, eh? That's how we roll indeed.
VW: fusibed (fuzzy bed) ... Meaningless drivel designed to put you into a stupor.
Timster, McZilla, welcome. Both of you have left serious, factual statements, evil IS patient (hard lessons, but easy when you get it) and Kali IS here.
Its not coincidence my last however many essays/posts are based on disaster unfolding. Synchronicity, but not coincidence.
The complexity of circumstance we find ourselves in is unprecedented in our time. That is not to say that it has not happened before because it has. It is just too ancient. One has to research myth and legend to find that a great catastrophe occurred sometime near 12,000 years ago.
The Kali Yuga is characterized by just what you see happening, a going away from the source towards materialism and greed.
And I am no expert on this stuff by any means of measurement.
Plato's father brought back a tale from Egypt about an ancient calamity. In something else I read there was a tale by an Egyptian Adept stating that many times in history great calamities had occurred.
Which makes me wonder just how ancient are we.
I don't have links for any of this but your post made me think of these things. Thanks for writing.
Likewise Burnie, thanks for sending me into another realm of spiritual exploration.
You can search a whole afternoon and not even come close to how old we really are. The first results lead to the fundamentalists' 6,000 year figure, life began 4,000 something BC, was predicted very seriously to last 6,000 years in total. Heh, I never took Lady Moosekiller to be into 2012. Changing the search terms around yielded even more interesting results. You arrive into a section of google that leaves the material world and enters charted science. The question is thrown back at you to answer "Why Life?" I'm going to go with a span greater than 250 million years for cellular fossil life during which we evolved into what we are today. There are good arguments for alien intervention, but then we must ask, how long have they been around? What are their beginnings and when? From there, you're looking at infinity. That's a lot of calamity, but we have heard that there is a lot going on out there.
mczilla, you inspired the Trouts new essay.
Even if "They Live", we must live too.
The Floorbirds
I've been hanging out with some young local musicians who are bringing back, or keeping alive, the traditional music.
They all have an idea of what's going on, and put it into their music.
For some reason, I really get on well with these kids... They are amazingly open to people (well, you won't find many country club members or suburbanites hanging out in their dives), and age is no barrier. Good spirits... something so healing and opening about songs of lament, love, times gone by, murder, passion, nature, nature's wounds....
you certainly are correct in observing all the consequences of disobeying our instincts. i almost get sucked back into the hologram on a daily basis but each time i say no its easier to discern what i really need and what can fall away.
enjoyed archdruids post -and from the looks of the commentary - he is particularly gloomy at this time.
gold salesmen? i dont understand the gold buying. what can you do with it? if we come into a time where gold is the currency again, then gold would be like having a target on your back. i can think of lots of better stashes and currencies.
loved the photograph in the title bar...the curve is a nice touch.
ahh, Thanks Nina—you're too kind ... even though the deeply suppressed paranoic-critical side to my nature buried tells me you're just being [can't kid a kidder] facetious to lull me into a false sense of security in order to stupify me ... ah, did I say that aloud—I thought I wuz only think... kinks reconnoitered.
Something I heard in the Underground: There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on, but it's just Elvis ~ uh—huh

so we gather here
having persevered
and cleared
to explore other avenues
through the mind sincere
to find a way
back to the meadow
to play
the warmth of home
where the truth stay.
