weekend brief

I am sorry to report on my web travels today, what is the matter with these people anyway? When are they going to come to their senses. Can it be that corruption on such a scale, even after only brief exposure, is irreversible? The Bu-ad stacked the courts, blew off the DAs who didn't agree with them and now, we live in hologram land. I have always held the weirdest feeling about candidate Greeting Card. It was as if he existed only because we dreamed him up? Have you met him, seen him in person? The vast majority of Americans have not and never will. And this thing about the voter's choice, heh, again, somehow it always comes down to a lesser of two evils and yet, those evils are cut from the same cloth. The old invisible robes ploy again. How dare they put someone in the oval and call him Osama Hussein. Let me lay it on you, that was not a synchronicity. Nor was it a coincidence.

The real-time technology used to make the film Avatar is prime for many applications beyond those of tinseltown. I'm not talking theme parks here. You'd have to have seen the filmmakers demonstrating the creation of characters and landscape, its an instant Photoshop in a sort of tablet camera/monitor that cranks out a semi-animation of what it is filming. The actors can wear what they normally wear, jeans, they just are the models to which Photoshop then applies native dress, colors, exaggerated features and movement. Same with the animals, foliage, a whole planet ... its incredible because the animation is so slight, yes, they do appear as if they are that planet's version of our species. Got it? Good.
It is said the technology was invented specifically for this film. In any brainstorming session, how long does it take for someone to appropriate the concept and share it with potential investors? About as long as a Twitter. This technology may be responsible for more than a few strange situations taking place on Earth. Nothing should surprise us by now.

Certainly you saw the Copenhagen climate talks amounted to a nonbinding resolution to allow China to smog and the Health Bill has been one long boring argument and dilly dallying producing nothing but higher prices even before any executive ink touches paper. Been to your pharmacy lately? Stand forewarned.

We know that Illinois sold a maximum security prison to the Feds. The local rurals are happy, surely it will bring them prosperity. We know 100 - 200 detainees will be transferred to this facility from Guantanamo which isn't being closed because they have plenty more sticking around to order rum punches from their chaise lounges at the Tropicana Banana.

The question was, Cuba was chosen because it was not on US soil therefore the US Constitution did not apply. Obviously, the detainees landing here despite lifer status, will want to see the insides of a courtroom and have a perfect right to do so. It didn't make sense. That is, until this morning. Now the pieces fall into place. 911 was our red alert. Within mere hours the atmosphere went from blue sky to a fog of danger. Everything changed. You have to learn to think like them if you want to anticipate them. Apparently, that is not easy. I'm not sure how one misses what is being laid out so clearly, after all, the pattern is long established by now. If you had reason to enmesh yourself in history and the arts (the eyes and voices) then you would have noted the parallels quickly and reel from all the little suspicions crowding out your worldview.

You know, human beings haven't really changed at all from the Dark Ages. Language evolves as the Alta Report proves so well. Costumes change. Styles go and return in retro. But the darkness was always there, sometimes it reigns like this era, maybe its the last era for real, if it is real. I am not kidding when I say I have my doubts. There is a sort of heebee jeebee torture going on with this chain yanking group of reptiles, a growing pressing down, it is most disturbing. It is hard to pinpoint what is exactly the most disturbing feature, the ones who know better but do it for position and fortune, another form of celebrity, or the ones who are evil beyond redemption, or those in it for secret reasons unfathomable to mere mortals.

Nina_ There really is no need for Avatars. With 300 million to choose from it isn't that hard to find somebody who won't dare step outside the hall of mirrors constructed by Harvard, Yale, Princton, TPTB and the money lords at Goldman Sachs. Obama isn't going to be breaking mirrors anytime soon although that is the only way out.

TPTB KNOW the current situation is not only not sustainable but is in the process of rapid decay. Notice that the Air Force in particular has had an accelerated program of installing solar panels and wind turbines on it's bases and is testing biofuels with the full range of their aircraft engines. Another hint is that DARPA is funding steam engines that can eat wood chips for military power plants. http://www.popsci.com/node/21610

Why was China at the Climate Change talks at all? They simply cannot avoid the reality of the problem. The nasty bit is that real solutions decentralize power and almost eliminate the massive profit streams that make TBTB who they are. Simply taking from the poor will not cut it when you have to recondition the entire worlds housing, the global agricultural system, global travel routes and methods, globalized industry........

Copenhagen was a meeting of addicts telling each other to quit first, (no, YOU quit first). If they want effective climate change conferences they need to hold them on Tuvalu or in New Orleans. Holding such meetings in Copenhagen is like meeting with Keith Richards in a poppy field.

aargh Pangolin—you beat me to the opening bell, while I wuz typin'—tsk tsk ~

“Soldiers fight for a King they've never met”—800 B.C.E. The Iliad ~ Homer. They never will meet—die for causes they'll never understand, barely comprehend—if at all. Their mothers will always know more than they do ... 1 way or the other. This, the past—lessons of history always teach us. We get it—aye ?

Set in the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of Ilium by a coalition of Greek states, tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and .... a few weeks in the final year of the war, the Iliad mentions or alludes to many of the Greek legends about the siege.

The stuff of legend !?

Here is a story of love and war, hope and despair, and honor and glory.—hahaha—[bells & whistles]. Times change, technology increases, heroes forgotten—if barely remembered at all. Who—what? So what! Everything changes—change happens ... regardless of intention. Nothing stays the same. Everything remains the same—nothing changes. The human heart remains extant—'tis in our nature to destroy ourselves.

Apologies—no spliff today, just the moribund realization the elephant is real ... and Hannibal riding atop.

Thank you gentlemen, I liked both of your comments very much.

Yes, Pango. And Warren Buffet bought the Burlington Northern. Reportedly the biggest shipping railroad. Oh, the climate talks, perhaps failure is helped along by climategate emails. Sneaky, huh. Had you seen this? Copenhagen and ...

Ah Baz ... The stuff of legend !?

Here is a story of love and war, hope and despair, and honor and glory. Your imagery brings up Bridge over the River Kwai. I realize you are serious, it is serious, but you have a neat sense of humor.

Baz_ So appropriate. The classics should be read in a class reads the most cynical and bitter political news on alternating days. The Art of War should alternate with combat reports from Iran and Afghanistan. The Prince should alternate with reports of the congressional dealings on health care reform. The Tao Te Ching should alternate with US religious news. Homer, of course, goes with everything.

I think the appropriate tale for the current day is The Walrus and the Carpenter

These verses come to mind...

"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick,
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"The butter's spread too thick!"

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

The Dark Ages were not so dark in some ways. It was a retreat from the Universalism of Rome, into a more intimate and circumscribed time. Feudalism, where your loyalty extended just to your lord and community. Sure, you could be abused by the local gentry, but they generally had an interest in a healthy and hearty peasantry. Those regions that really put the screws on the peasants did poorly in terms of wealth and prosperity.

Feudalism was at its peak of health when the gentry took its responsibilities seriously, and people obeyed limits. Real human feeling was a hallmark of the era. Of course, this real human feeling could result in wars, feuds, and retribution. The genuine belief in Jesus, God, and a heaven and hell tended to tamp things down, though.

I'm not trying to romanticize it, but read a book talked about here before, Tuchman's, "A Distant Mirror."

Today, the problem is the opposite: an elite with global pretensions, whose ideology is far worse and more destructive than that of Rome or Feudalism or the Church: an abstract, econometric, inhumane, scientistic regime based on numbers, GDP, statistics, and the religion of universal reason. In other words, pure hell on earth, ruled by monsters (economists, scientists, political demons).

The intimate, emotional yet limited brutality of the Middle Ages is replaced by the absolute, universal, and nihilistic, limitless brutality of modern corporate globalism, which even sets its sights on the destruction of the very biosphere and all forms of life that will not surrender or become domesticated.

A very tidy nutshelling of the situation at hand Publius. You saw this?

It will repeat indefinitely until some natural chaos intercedes. When I think about the situation, I see vast technologies in place that support and exacerbate it that will not go away, of course nothing changed. How could it possibly change at this scale? Historic parallels are helpful to a point, the point being 7 billion people. That figure is new as is the technology holding it together.

Considering what is at hand, its no wonder we look to 2012, climate chaos and peak oil. We have had some pretty heavy disasters in the past century on US soil, the Dustbowl, Katrina, but they were sort of absorbed by the engines powering the greater movement into supreme corruption.

When I was a child I knew everything important. I know so much less now.

Shaman clause visited me in the form of an odd chap named Michael Angel who held a healing circle that I was privileged to attend Saturday before Solstice. Many odd, terrifying and cathartic things happened there which surprised me as I was clear of the 'little helpers' at the time. It was like having somebody read my past and tell it back to me which was very odd for me because I wasn't speaking. He's headed Ohio way if anyone's interested.

Welcome the new light, a bit more every day. Happy Solstice, Advent and new life to all.

Great find in the blogosphere today. Excerpt:

A Weapon of Mass Destruction
Human "thinking" is a weapon of mass destruction. There are actually steps that need to be taken, procedures, disciplines, remembrances, etc. to detoxify thinking, to fortify its immune system against itself. Only a "thinking" which has been through this process and development of auto-immunification really deserves to poke its head out into the world and begin chirping, adding its voice to the chorus of influences continually piping in the background around us/within us. But how few there are with even a concept of "de-toxification"!

Books - many books, most books - are cognitional poisons, or rather, poisons of the soul. It is necessary for us to expose ourselves to these packaged poisons, and it is equally necessary for us to learn how to clean ourselves after ingesting them. Indeed I wonder if there is not some deep, secret, intimate relationship between poisons and consciousness itself? - look at how closely drugs and vegetable toxins are allied with shamanism, with voyages to the limits of awareness, with the "awakening into life and awareness."

We are reaching the limits of our ability to handle these toxins. For the shamans exposure to toxins meant an expansion of consciousness. For us, on the contrary, exposure has only meant a narrowing and stultification of consciousness, a hardening of the arteries, an inability to change, a deep stagnation. All of modern society has the character of a stagnant pool, full of toxins. All of our ways of doing things are overlaid with habits, mental habits, mental habits upon mental habits - in a way, it is an exquisite work of art without the art, a porcelain inlay that is paradoxically both fragile and hard as steel. Our "fragility" can be seen in the growing movement to impose conformity upon thought - political correctness, the fear of new ideas, the fear of making fun of ideas, people, things. Everything has got a sheen over it of the pseudo-sacred. Our hardness consists in a loss of plasticity. The toxification of our minds has left us into the mud - the dinosaur mud - in which our steps are encased.

The cost of toxification is loss of intimacy with one's own mind. Relationships and acquaintance with people reveal this loss of intimacy, freedom, confidence issuing ultimately into alienation, self-alienation and loss of community. The ability to think in a relatively unpoisoned way is the conditio sine qua non of viable community, social imagination and growth, of loving and being loved, of friendship, philia, dialogue, conversation. The social, intellectual and spiritual stagnation of the United States today is very much the result of the fact that few people seem to inhabit their inner forum in a real way. Many appear not to be holding a conversation with their own minds.

Pangolin said...

Publius_You might be interested to note that the common Peruvian term for Shamanic Ayahuasca ceremonies is "La Purga" or 'the purge.' This is because in addition to the mental effects of cleaning some of the poisons that accumulate in our head with negative emotions it also clears out a great deal of viral and bacterial toxins; usually by projectile vomiting and violent diarrhea.

'Meme wars' are merely an extension of the information wars that virus, bacteria and multicellular organisms have been waging for the last four billion years. It's simply that the information is encoded in stories, books, art, movies, song and now the internet as wells as DNA, RNA and physical constructs. Science Fiction author David Brin has much to say on the subject here and many of his books are themed on this concept.

People are merely very well informed bags of water after all; and a few minerals. The trick is to keep your information hygiene up to par. Cook all your pork well. Avoid shellfish unless you can smell the ocean. Limit your sexual partners. Turn off Fox news and limit your exposure to commercial advertising. It's all the same.

When you notice that a person lives glued to their cell phones you have witnessed a mind compromised by meme warfare. That person is unable to function without constant validation by media. Without their electronics they're lost.

'persu' Yes, have not spaced out.

Pangolin said...

Turey_That would be somewhat unlikely. I've seen the man dance and he seems rather frail for a percussionist; also reserved when he's not expressing his talent. There are many wiry drummers but his isn't that kind of body. I'm talking about a very thin, very white, guy with dark curly hair, a hook nose and multiple black tattoos. There's no way this guy has apache in him.

Nina,
What captivates me about this picture is that it is normally the child who is unsure whilst in the presence of this mythical man, and yet you are the one who is most certain and his eyes are saying help what am I doing here.
Love it.

nina said...

Thank you. As it went, I am unsure if the camera did that or if I was always that way. It was that way that caused the problems.

It is an interesting thing that I put this same photo up last year without much comment, but this year, more SEE.

It says something about our level of perception.

Maybe the forces are testing us after all. This whole journey is the test that extincts all other tests.

A virtual present from SS.

For when the time is right, for those there. Afternoon before a full moon is a good choice, anytime and anywhere is right.

This one in Smith Land aka Cane Peice, Great Bay, Treasure Beach, Jamaica.

Cooking in a largeSolar oven is fresh organic locally grown veg etc, baking in another is an experiment with local grains, fruits, nuts and berries. Amaranth and Quinoa come to mind. Salt free, local sea salt available on the side. Water from the sweetest spring in the area and fresh coconut water a chop away.

Bring your Hawaiian sling, mask and flippers or rod and reel. We'll clean and prepare the catch.

The lonely beaches are a short wild track walk. Come back for eats after a salt cleanse followed by a fresh water wash. Gathered around a large warming solar heliostat heated cast iron sphere.

The moon rises and the waves lap. An escape or a start?

Time will tell.

Off to The Garden.

In that photo, Nina, you have piercing eyes that are too knowing... reminds me of my older favorite half-sister, who is a modern dancer. I haven't seen her in person in twenty years, nor have I met my wonderful niece yet... she once told me, in 1989, that it was hard to talk to me, because my voice sounded so much like our father's.

What is happening to this nation and planet of peasants (I know I'm in the peasant class) is obvious to me, because I went through childhood in a similar situation - never knowing when the PTB were going to suddenly have a fit, or go crazy, or blame others for their failings.

Our dear fearless leaders are blaming us already. I heard Obama on National Propaganda Radio today saying he wouldn't "tolerate" extreme views....
So what's he gonna do, call Ghostbusters?

Obama never fooled me, but I can see how he fooled the young and naive, and those who think hope is even a worthy strategy.

Thanks, Pango, on the link. Fascinating, truly.

I know this feeling so well. It does play havoc with ones life but also teaches you to see what is really in front of you.

I don't hold any extreme views. I am a perfectly reasonable person, fair and square. Golden rule morality. Truth above all and so forth.
How can this be extreme? Now e-x-t-r-e-m-e is when something totally off the wall, physcially dangerous, inappropriate and dishonest, sleezy, cheating, narcissistic and against all normal standards of decency is taking place. Wouldn't you say?

Pangolin said...

Nina_ You know damn well that truth, honesty, open and fair dealing are so foreign to the American way of governance that you might as well have announced you were joining the Taliban.

The reason that we have one-thousand page bills is the same reason we have impossible to understand mortgage and insurance contracts. Buried in that kind of mess is always a pile of graft, corruption and inside dealing. Both parties do it so there's blame all around.

Obama is just proving that he was purchased as much as the last fool on the hill.
