What feature in the WorldX operating system would bring-in such heavies as Mme.All-red and M.Geragos from the media created celebrity defense industry, unfailingly drawn to the scent of money and lots of it? It would be extensive Image Consulting negotiations also known as the reverse of crisis management, we can call it crisis creation and we can call it benefitting from manufactured crisis. For example, what if you had one gig and that's all anybody knew you did, you make a tidy fortune off that one gig, but you saw it was a dead end in the long run, that hanging around on the green with others hanging around in the green wasn't enough when nothing is ever enough, and you had a secret craving for something more, something perhaps narcissistic too, like a book and multi movie deal. In other words, Tiger wants to be an actor. In his circle of green acquaintances and connections in-the-know, easily he would come across those who could arrange a change of career. How successful this would turn out depends on how badly Tiger wants his wish fulfilled, much like selling his soul to the devil. Arrangements would have to be outrageously expensive, its never as easy as it looks, or rather, is made to look, even though most of us would never know or suspect enough to look. The public is predictable, its not hard to take over their attentions with a sex scandal no matter what horrors are occurring elsewhere, anywhere. Yes, even while human beings are dying duct-taped and gagged with rags at Guantanamo, a sex scandal takes precedence over all else as Image Consultants well know, and as Elliot Spitzer came to learn.
I have quoted many times on this blog the age old line sex and money makes the world go round. Oh, you think its war that makes it spin, no, money makes war and war makes money. In this way, money actually trumps sex.
I'm not shocked, just disgusted. It keeps happening, in the space of mere days we had dinnergate crashing right into womanizergate running parallel to climategate. You should ask "Who is behind this?" Certainly, it would be lame to suggest these things just happen. No, it is part of what we have come to expect, there are no accidents. It only appears to the masses as every once in a while some fool actually does something media worthy, always something negative, criminal or scornful, and during the shock and furor small word leaks out about the involvement of a damage consultant on the job, a slide-by detail, as if this were the most normal thing in the world. Oh, why there is nothing at all strange about hiring a "public relations" group to push a variance of a story and create an aura that is the opposite of the aura actually surrounding an event. Definitely, that is one of the worst features, and least mentioned to my knowledge anyway, about our current status in lovely WorldX. Have a look for yourself the next time, or this time, something foolish comes to the forefront like balloon boy and morphs and fleshes expansively as it floats through the populations like shake and bake in the water supply.
If crisis managers can change the public perception, why limit that line of work to rerouting a crisis already taking place, why not create crisis on demand? All the tools to do so are already available in their workplace, the connections, the legal teams, and for the right price, plenty of people are willing to participate, eager even to make the cover of the tabloids, to be seen, known, perhaps for them there will be book and movie deals as well?
Not every consulting firm is as good at these projects as some others are, like anything, a mere handful are skilled enough to execute the job flawlessly and others - just not quite as well. I suspect in Tiger's case it won't produce the obviously lavishly expensive results desired, perhaps he should have negotiated with a few others before settling on that one with the loudest mouth and not the best plan. He doesn't really have the "it" factor and no one told him because he was busy being leveraged.
If media did not exist, would these crises take place? If media was not entertainment with consequence, would it be of any interest to anyone? Notice in the Tiger project how many profited financially - and those are just the ones you know about. Look at dinner gate, how do the Solahis rate newsworthiness other than by what has happened since? They may still get their reality show because after all they were just the dimestore players in a larger crisis of greater consequence in which ever-burgeoning security enhancements further buttress the fortress of far bigger fish.

The CFO of my company, the one who was badgering me about learning the "company vision statement," was distraught, very distraught, over the Tiger Scandal.
My CFO is a righteous individual, and hates Democrats, but he thought Tiger was a virtuous player. The CFO also loves sports, and he needs at least one sports figure who is righteous.
I'd better learn the vision statement, pronto...
Oh do post it for us!
Maybe Tiger was unhappy being a righteous sports figure and decided to show his stripes in order to move on. He could not have been very satisfied in his womanizing life.
Its a new height in consumerism.
I read the vision statements of a lot of companies and am always left feeling sarcastic. They always talk about what they do FOR you and then won't actually deal with you until they have your driver's license ID to get you into the system at which time you become a number tranched into software's decisions and the octopuses of subsidiaries of subsidiaries.
I saw where you said the snow had started, Publius, you have my storm, the weather said its leaving the west and coming over the Northern midwest. another one comes here on Thursday, you'll get that too. Sorry.
Is there another Co vision other than: 'work boy!'?
My ex and I had similar going nowhere talks too Publius. 20+ years worth of them. I should have used these to sharpen my vague vision. Sometimes visions just can't be clarified though, just followed.
Still sorting, packing and giving away. I never set sail until everything is properly stowed and the winds are right, even if it's leaving on a Jet Plane. In spite of inner doubting Thomas, things are falling (rising?) in place.
The misty forests are still there Nina. Developers are probably eyeing them but the BC folk mostly like their trees and nature.
Poor Tiger, they got his wood.
turey.
'innertm' Time for inner Time.
There is another vision Rasta, and there will be more and more coming along as we go further away from the norms of western thinking, inside the box, into our individual plans for survival. It seems that at this time a happy medium is trying to be born, but it won't be sustainable in the absence of courage and ingenuity. Also, the solutions we want are the solutions that right for us, and not exactly right for someone else. There is a fine line easily crossed by taking others for granted (thinking for them), made easier for everyone by us, you, me, Publius doing two things at once, doing what we must while respecting the other person. Are we clear?
The idea that people must follow rules arranged by the plantation overseer has never fit with me. We should be far past that by now, because those rules have proven useless, damaging and corrupt.
Snowstorm... not quite a blizzard up here. Went out to put windshield wiper fluid in the "new" used wife-n-child-mobile I'd recently purchased for $500 cash on the barrel head from a friend (after having my genius automechanic friend verify it's amazing condition), went to local pub where I've met Zoner.Very few there because of the weather, but the eccentrics where there, the owner who works for Lenny Kravitz (which he likes way better than working for the Blue Man Group as manager)... my artist friend Tim who is impoverished, but feeling better. I usually buy him a drink but this time offered to help him apply for unemployment bennies on the Internet, which he has no idea how to use. I may buy some art from him... he likes the river, boathouses, cooking, art, conversation... the big hootenanny group was playing, including the odd Larry Havluck from my hometown, the older brother of a good friend who is incredibly jaded. Met a guy who can't shut up, and admitted it... talked about the recent demise of the wonderful Liam Clancy with Bill Watkins, the self-centered but witty and entertaining host in kilt with dagger on his ankle. Bill had, of course, met Liam Clancy a number of times. Bill has also fought for the Sandinistas, and done other incredible things that may or may not be true.
Had a strange feeling that I would be able to find my way... went home in the cold bracing air and ate some almonds.
So if sex and money make the world go 'round, where does that leave those of us who have none of either?
Just sayin'.
Z
I can feel further doorways and understandings ahead. I hope the directors and executives in the Co(rporate) World listen/see too. Their history of love of money/power gives me doubt. These are loads on any path.
I hope all around this and all campfires take the chance of holding the talking stick. Even to give a time of silence for their turn. A Corporate World allowing this would be one step ahead. The plantation model is so straightforward though. Keep em in line and make em work...hard. No backchat too.
Pubs are one of the great meeting places for great meetings Publius. And right; 2 large bottles of almond butter for the Ja trip. Protein and fat for road trips, with wholegrain bread and a few sachels of powdered soya milk. Fruit as we stop at roadside vendors. Will report.
The wind is rising, soon cast off.
turey,
'abillish' Mesopotamian dude or?
As mother to many it sometimes appears that i employ the same crisis management features as worldx i.e. threats, coercion, and my most powerful card is the promise of sweetness or adventure or change.
Publicus - my partner does not understand why every friday evening after a night of volleyball i step into the local pub.
firstly because i don't drink
secondly i would never invite the majority of the publicans to my home
and thirdly because after a certain time the conversation becomes repetitive beyond measure.
i guess it gives me a chance to be yet another persona, to converse with the farmers, to shock them for them to shock me and generally to sink into the ambiance of village life.
whatever i speak about is denounced as conspiracy bullshit, including the most basic truths so it also teaches me patience and how to just give up and give in.
whilst you are having fierce winter storms, the sun is shining brightly and the sky is once again that african blue. a slight breeze keeps the temperatures bearable. i have noticed in this particular personal programming that i am much more vulnerable in winter.
the absence of light and warmth brings home the battle of survival and everything seems much worse in the darkness.
as a light worshipper, there are few places in the northern hemisphere that i could consider.
turey: may the wind carry you well.
Thanks Su. On to sunshine.
turey.
I was born in summer, and love the heat of the sun and the warm lake waters and beaches of summer.
I've come to appreciate winter more, however. The stillness, the cold, the flickering twilit hours when subtle mysteries too quiet for the tumult of summer reveal themselves.
Survival seems in some ways harder in winter and northern climes, but this is balanced by the fact that fewer live in the North. There is wood to burn and hot tea to drink, fires to attend to, inner and outer.
These thoughts made me think of Rilke, and I found this quote:
If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator, there is no poverty.
Rainer Maria Rilke
Su, we have an actual medical disorder here that you may have heard of - S.A.D., or Seasonal Affected Disorder (I think).
They actually make SAD lights with special lamps (basically grow lights) you sit by to absorb the light and combat the depression that comes from living like a bear in a cave (only awake).
45 years of this is too much. Publius, it's all yours, man.
turey, I must have missed the details of whatever voyage you are soon to undertake. Can I read about it somewhere?

The plantation system survived because the boss had a team of thugs hired to beat, abuse and if needed kill whoever stepped out of line. Which is how all the Chinese factories that make all our stuff run and why the factories are in China.
We are having a mighty cold snap in NorCal that is stripping the orange trees of leaves and putting a rare skim of ice on the creek behind the beaver. Glad y'all are enjoying the almonds we send you.
Giving your neighbors enough space to make the small mistakes does save a lot of time and frustration.
My computer is officially dead. Will drop in as I can. Love and peace to all.

Pangolin, I left a comment on your blog with condolences about your offline status.
I have this slow forming, under the language mind question, when are the Darth Vaders going to get fed up, laid off, gypped on pensions and health insurance, don't they have families? Homes, mortgages, mouths?
For $250 a computer repair place will sell you a rebuilt something. If your Mac drive is still breathing, they can possibly upload your stuff too. Iffy, I know. They're desperate. However, best to consult with Publius, a real TECH. Still, I liked your previous idea about the little notebooks with Chrome.
Ah, now, Z. Perhaps we have a lot of unexpressed anger going on that has internalized and by this time covered over the roots of the events which made you so angry?
I do mean the roots of the events, not the events themselves, the roots generally get lost in the dialogue and emotion of the moment. You have to think back to the very day and days before what might have been going on. I'm thinking there was some false desire involved, something that translated circuitously into conflict that has been buried but lives to linger as depression - because it was never addressed with truth at the time it should have been taken right out, on the table, examined and made right, from the start. When this stuff is allowed to fester, it becomes depression and people usually wonder why they are feeling this way because getting to those roots is not easy and worse, its painful.
* * *
BTW, did you ever think SAD is just another word for cabin fever? Like, heh, nothing new, but nice for grow lamp sales.
I warn you, no one will want to hear my take on why Ras turey is blowing off BC, I've got no kind words for the relatives. My take is simply that it usually takes a personal disaster to get us moving to a higher plane of consciousness in a supportive geography, all to turey's credit he is going into survivalship in paradise where he already owns land. Definitely beats cabin fever, puffing and typing, reading bad news and being unable to do anything about anything because of the Darth Vader overseers.
Su, your last few posts have made me want more than ever to lie in the hammock and be served mint juleps by Thankyou and just listen to you talk about anything you want.
I don't want to spill anything on your blog, Nina, so I'll respond to your comment elsewhere.
You are right on, of course. What do I owe for this session? Same time next week? (chuckling).
Remember, Vader had a change of heart when he reached his end. I'd worry more about the Emperor.

I won't go there, but nice try.
Well, my original comment that I was going to e-mail to you

It is weird how technology decides for us what will and will not be exchanged. Night before last I left two comments on your blog Z and neither showed.
Bummer. I always enjoy seeing your words.
I ditched the moderation, so maybe that will help?
Z
Woh ho ho, you were moderating? Heh, man you got it bad. This too shall pass ...
Homilies such as "look on the bright side, etc." are actually antagonizing. I read somewhere recently that we actually think more clearly in a depressed state, being that a depressed state is what we have here, this life, these times. A happier state makes us overlook flaws in the program that we see very sharply when in a funk.
My comments were something along these lines with a recommendation that you indulge yourself in being online as much as you want or don't want. And as long as you are surfing anyway, take in as much Charles Eisenstein as possible. There is nothing wrong with suffering by the way, its very individual, it is the road to somewhere else where things are an improvement over the present. You are fully entitled to your suffering Z.
Got snow this morning. Crisp, clean.
Yes the plan and the trip. About when my voice changed, a certainty that something was special was unfolding this time round took me a Pathfinding. Figured humans could do a better job than we have so far, I wanted to find how, or rediscover what was forgotten. That urged me through med school (never finished), recycler of wonders, dad, husband and a bunch of other things. It is indeed a special time now.
Half century later, I'm gathering my tools and my wits to work with a community in Southern Jamaica. Treasure Beach, Saint Elizabeth. A series of sleepy fishing villages that is waking up to the blessings and challenges of welcoming and catering to visitors. I dislike 'tourist'. We're all tourists on this floating world anyway.
It can be a Paradise as long as one remembers they are an outsider. Right, Smalltownsville, Ja style. Maybe in five or six generations one may be accepted as 'one a we!'. I was born and raised about 50 miles as the crow flies East (they do right Nina!) from there in Kingston.
I bought 3 1/4 acres when it was possible to buy for a sane amount. It's been untouched except for goats and hurricanes passing through. My tent is there rotting with some tools. I left my presence!.
15 minutes walk to the sea. Everyone says 'Howdidoo' or 'Morning sah'. Mostly redskinned decendants of Native Americans (Taino), Africans, Sephardic Jews and Celts, like me. Expert fishermen and both hard and smart working.
I see through the winter with my mom and family here in British Columbia and see when the winds pick up in the new year. In the midst of this always expecting the unexpected.
I'll publish some visuals when things get together there. A second hand laptop will run me $120'ish here and wireless internet is available in Ja. Everyone has a cellphone.
Now to carry on stowing and checking the rigging.
turey.
'wrate' Tell them WGP has sent a new word out. Right, but wait.
Patient man ride jackass.
We're all tourists on this floating world anyway.
Yes Dread... the I is a free man now. Already in the new chapter. This is going to be good. Probably the best ever. I'm sure you have some memories that you look upon sweetly, you can recreate them or even surpass them now.
As we say in Ja: "Wait Sista! unnu a reada".
We rely on our Readers, Bush Doctors and Science People. Ancient campfires that still smoulder in three navels of Turtle Island.
Caobana, Yamaye and Ayti.
Cuba is far ahead in the national application of organic farming, preventive medicine etc. We're just waking up in Jamdown but never stopped singing and dancing. Haiti is more than ready and has many gifts of the spirit to give
Some are in Copenhagen attempting to solve what is solvable by the Roots people. Cheap too. Just gotta love soil, water, air and sun and the mystery at the heart of all seeds.
And I got...'chinger'.
Irie WG Prophet, bring on the gold. No more spilled milk this time.
#2 'he-calf' No WGP, no more blood sacrifices. Our Attention and Love go on the altar this time.

'hot-se' No, sleepy.
Computer un-glitched for a bit. Software maybe. Too broke to spend any $$ on the machine for now.
Had to go out today in the pouring rain to make the weekly peace vigil and get supplies. Watching people go by it's like it's never rained before, ever. Very few people with umbrellas, almost nobody in actual rain gear and very many people wearing cotton sweatshirts in the rain. Among the sightings was a family trying to make it's way through downtown with two of the four children wearing nothing that resembled a jacket at all much less anything waterproof.
People have no sense; the majority of people. Raised in a world of heated and cooled boxes they simply cannot imagine that they must attend to the vagaries of the weather. I wonder if I'm insane to be wearing my rain pants and jacket and sheepskin cap as I biked around to get my weekly supplies. The pot of potato-leek soup on the stove murmurs reassurance but I do wonder. Who is the butterfly and who is the dreamer?
v'word: kicking if I tell
Of course, you must have noticed how well they do in snow. Like WOW this is TEOTWAWKI!
Glad to see you Pango. I hope the system holds out until something falls into your lap.
I was thinking if we have to, we can make a donations bank for you, you provide an address and whomever is able can send however much they are able? You have to promise that any donations will be used for your purchase of a working computer OR maybe we should send donations to Publius who would refurbish a used something and send to you? But maybe we won't have to do this if the Mac is holding up?
With so many sites sporting paypal donation buttons, it must work, wouldn't you think? My only reservation on this plan is that we wouldn't have enough donations to do much of anything, I think we're all broke or like me, a drop out of the money economy. But we could try, we never know until we try it. Let me know your thoughts when you can. I've seen your posts around town, others appear to value your presence as much as I do.
The cons to these plans are the Forces of Nature who may be telling you to live in the moment in their physical world.
Yes Nina, I'd put $ as you suggested.
That's how we do it, or did it until trust got sold to profit by almost any means. All came together to work a mans field and all assist those needing it after hurricane.
It's called 'The Gift Economy', it's what kept many going when storm or bad gov hit.
I can mail cheques.
Nina, you have my email from
Shangril-La, yes?
turey.
WGP agrees; to-mr-in.
Nina_ My deepest thanks for the kind offer but there are other cupboards I should look into first. Namely certain family members who work in the computer business and might be persuaded to upgrade early and kick down their old machine. I also have access to a truly stupendously fast machine for the effort of a twenty minute bike ride to another family member whom I have been avoiding.
In truth I spend too much damn time surfing the net as it allows me to indulge in the world of ideas and potential when my physical reality is somewhat in need of a spring cleaning. Which is a nice way of saying that I have my head in the sand to avoid the sad reality of a man living alone.
Truly, money has literally dropped in front of me on the pavement when I honestly needed it and I'm not quite there yet. I need to spend more time in the realz and talk to the physical people around me.
Proof, the damn machine let me type this up.......
Oh, potato leek soup makes good latkes: add flour, baking powder.
WV: flutic,
Thank You Rasta, you are right on! Indeed, the Gift Economy.
Okay, Pangolin, let us know when you need us. We're here and ready anytime you are.
The thing about enjoying offline time is we're so weird, we never realize how fabulous it is out there until we're back on line, hooked again. Its happened to me enough times now I have a memory of those times, but here I am jonesed.
If we can find a balance, we'll have it licked, but did you ever see a junkie balance?
In my case its really not due to lonely at all, its due entirely to habit. But I've heard others confess its due to aloneness, so there is plenty of both going on.
The internet does potentiate connections such as here. Doubt I would have met any at this gathering if not for it.
The money thing discussed is a natural progression from 'Each One Teach One' to 'Each One Help One'. If the Earth is for I and the fullness thereof, then...
Right, sex and money. Tricky territory. Politics, drugs and religions in some company too.
Would I accept from such a pot? If so what are the conditions of acceptance? You willing to hold such a pot Nina? Group experiment #1. Remember the domino effect? it may just catch on. It's time for such attempts. I'm into it, we call it 'pardner' in Jamaica. Never perfect. It goes waaay back.
As was discussed in the Shangril-La forum, the threat of leeches siphoning willing energy; $, kind or? is always a consideration. Maybe as in my business days, we wrote off say 2% to losses beyond our control. Be it really to feed pickney or bad habits, whatever. If it went too high, we had a talk to the bad man dem and sent out warnings. Life in Paradise is still a challenge.
Off to pick up my brother, just ran the Reggae Marathon in Negril and went to Caobana. Will report.
turey.
'to-ddent' The dentist is in jan. Stop bugging.
#2 're-mili'. Who's she?
Publius, that was a profound quote by Rilke, one which cuts to the challenge of the next 20+ years. Thank you for that. What is the source poem?
Nina, you capture things in a phrase as usual. Entertainment with consequences. I would add: 'distractions with consequences." Same thing I guess.
pinglipa--my word verification sounds Tagalog.
turey, such a voyage is looking like the kind of radical action we are currently discussing here in the Frozen Lands - tropical is a suitable pole-flip after 45 winters in MN, no? I find myself dreaming of Africa or South America these days and less about some cozy little shack in the Emerald Forest. I mean if detachment from the Beast is to be fully achieved, why not go "all in" and head for the "3rd world"? Folks might just not take themselves so seriously perhaps?
Seriously, at this point there is no longer any strong desire to remain in he USA, especially with the "Medical Industrial Complex" poised to completely mow someone like me down. I have a deep love and appreciation for the American continent and the beauty held within, but the lifestyle that is most appealing puts us in too stark an opposition with too many that can't comprehend why, much less get with the groove if circumstances make it necessary.
My neighbors will NOT fare well should disruptions occur, and there is no one to come and save the day.
If there are small communities where people live with an active, participatory interest in each other's lives and without competition for "bragging rights" based on useless measures, I intend to be there ASAP no matter WHERE I might find it. With my brilliant, strong and capable family in tow, ready to chip in and demonstrate to the world that all Americans aren't completely insane, there is much healing that shall be done. That is my intention.
Poles have flipped for sure here - anything is possible and the winds are picking up. I look forward to hearing more about everyone's adventures as they continue to unfold. It's getting good, innit?
I am also continuing to purge my possessions, and have a spare guitar or 2 if anyone needs a beater to toss on the boat or in the kit as they travel. I wish I had a spare PC for you, Pangolin.

Thanks for checking in!
Saw a wonderful concert this past Saturday: Pieta Brown with Bo Ramsey.
It's amazing how life-affirming and spiritually awakening music can be if/when the artists who create and present it are themselves full of spirit. Peita is the daughter of the wonderful Greg Brown... we talked to both artists a bit afterwards. Bo Ramsey has played with people from Joan Baez (whom he really was impressed by) to Lucinda Williams and Bob Dylan. Dylan called him in for a jam session a few years back, out of the blue.
I wonder why Dylan hasn't been totally corrupted by WorldX? I thought he might be going bad when he did that Victoria's Secret ad a while ago, but maybe that was just a joke.
Hope everyone is well... it's cold cold here in the Midwest, but warm on the inside.
