I am in the strangest place with this blog, it seems to extend indefinitely and there is no statistician to guide where it might go in times to come. I've written a number of essays and deleted them all. If I wait a day or two, the events of our times change, magnify and worsen actually, like a terminal disease, and there is little point in saying something that becomes past tense before you can articulate your thoughts or even realistically define our fluid situation. My chief concern since last month has been the genocide taking place in the area Shock Doctrined during Katrina, as if we are witness to the Postmortem Monsters' Ball of Peak Carpetbagging. If you are as busy surfing for information as I am, let me offer a few sites that are doing a great job of discussing said genocide:
ClubOrlov
Desdemona Despair
The Oil Drum
and more below ...
After all, what is mass death on such an incomprehensible scale but genocide? My general feeling about this is very simple, stop all attempts to recover what is gushing from the geysers, seal it off and go home. Face charges and do your time. Show all the corrupt and greedy you are just ordinary men and offer up your one good example as final testimony to having passed through this Earthly journey. As long as you insist on profit from the enterprise of genocide, you will fail. Oh, you didn't realize it was going to be so ghastly? That is no excuse in the eyes of the Divine, you participated, designed, connived, shaved off every detail you could get away with, all along. Oh, everyone else does it? That is a worse excuse. If you truly desire to seal the pipes, instead of golf balls and tires I suggest you make a clay mold as dentists do in our mouths and fill it with melted plastic shopping bags and Styrofoam cups which you will give to the robot and have your geysers stuffed never to break down for tens of thousands of years.
I am really disgusted this oil eruption happened. It was entirely predictable. If you do not walk away from the profit angle and fix your mess, it will happen again and again. Look into your heart and see the answer.
It will not escape the astute reader that what is happening on the peak energy front is analogous to everything else seeking obscene material wealth in 2010 plus. Now we are going to witness who comes forth as human and who is the real monster. Make that plural, who the real monsters are. What do you bet ecosystems don't qualify for a bailout? No, all these things qualify for after such disasters have generationally destroyed entire geographies, is anthropogenic destabilization of Earth's balance in the Universe, be it Ozone holes or holes drilled into the Earth's crust. This brings up the question, specifically, what is the goal? To be more powerful than God?
If these monsters don't do the right thing right now, you know more is on the way. Anytime, anywhere. We cannot prepare for or consider surviving that which we do not know. And what pray tell is this emerging whisper concerning small nukes to control deepwater drilling "leaks"? Is this how it all goes down?

Hi Nina. I have recently seen the estimates of the amount of oil being released daily go from 5000 barrels a day to as many as 60,000. It certainly seems that they had no plan on how to deal with anything like this happening. Hoping that nothing goes wrong is not a plan. And now what? Absolutely awful.
I suspect at the moment they are going through every thought they can muster up to justify this with them selves, scraping the delusional torrents of selfishness that guides them to whatever insain reality they will exist in next week
thinking it doesnt really matter,oh it matters alright, another marker on the battle feild of the war they are at,inside themselves.
sorry I havent been around nina
I have been struggling of late,
I dont seem to feel deep empathy as much after my travel
but it is now returning day by day
will try and write you a poem a bit later..
neil
That's right John, no plan, I saw those estimates climbing too. At the end of the day, it was topped off with a mainstream "welcome" news article saying "how much" isn't important. I'd link to it, but the articles charge per word for the privilege and encourages people to ingest such nonsense. I see today they are putting out mile long tubing to siphon oil to the surface ship as well as dispersing oil-diluting chemicals underwater - suddenly approved by the EPA.
I fear this dispersant, Corexit 9500, will be just as environmentally devastating as the immediate oil/gas free-flow. Its never been used underwater before and is a known health hazard.
That they work to salvage the oil vs. sealing the leaks shows us how desperate the oil companies are. That government regulators still allow them to attempt these jury rigs at all in spite of repeated failures is another telling feature.
60,000 bpd x 42 gal pb = 2,520,000 gallons per day. Two and a half million gallons and growing because the incessant pressure enlarges the openings thus increasing the flow. At this rate it really will extend indefinitely, compounding damages all the way.
I look forward to your poems neil. Saw you posted on Petri Dish and was glad you came forth.
They can hand wring all they want, but until they think seriously on what they've done and take personal responsibility they accelerate the march to doom for everyone/everything affected. Its really beginning to look like our regulatory agencies have been sleeping on the job for decades, watching porn, collecting pay offs, etc. And they are still clueless.
All these TBTF giants have language and proprietary technologies that mystify the regulators tasked with oversight. Nobody really has a handle on anything except the cons.
Admin at Survival Acres, is blogging again and recommends reading Lessons from the Gulf.
Thanks for the information Nina. What an unbelievable amount of oil. Such bad news. I'll go and read the Lessons from the Gulf article. Cheers all.
Its an intense, fact-filled link, Steve Lendeman's blog entries remind me of the old TV show Dragnet, "just the facts ma'am."
It is to weep.
it is to weep -which is why i abandoned my comment yesterday...a link to pictures..bottle nosed porpoised swimming through oil, coated birds, dead turtles. for every one seen i imagine so many more anonymous deaths..i cant stand it. and i have nothing more to offer.
That's just fine Chickory, you don't have to say anything, we feel the same. Its good you posted your sorrow.
I had to go into town today for supplies. To see the faces, the shelves, the lures, the rushing ... for what? At the seafood counter, the prices were up for everything, Alaska crab for example, Chilean salmon and so forth. They use the news as an opportunity for overall price hikes. But no one working there seems to have any idea what is going on in the Gulf. I could not get it out of my mind. I still can't. Pass the kleenex please...
well bp
we have ourselves a little problem
your obsession with profit
and how no one will ever stop them
a mental illness thats what I see
a damaged mind
and the love you dont recieve
the thing is we dont even need
this oil
it should be left where it belong
to do whatever it does
on earth
where mother nature sings her song
the song you cant here
its transmitted through the love
all the little people know
thats what keeps them all above
thinking thoughts of innocense
humble people sincere
the ones your ilk try to dominate
murder and starve with skill
well your little escapade
is coming to an end
you probably dont realise yet
but you picked fools for friends
the people are combining
they know something is wrong
they couldnt help but listen
they see your finished
it wont be long
so as nina says
own up and walk away
and join your place within
the people
thats the only way.
..peace..
A cap of lead across the sky
Was tight and surly drawn,
We could not find the Mighty Face,
The figure was withdrawn.
A chill came up as from a shaft,
Our noon became a well,
A thunderstorm combines the charms
Of Winter and of Hell.

..neil.., please see the gallery today if you have a minute to look.
And thank you, on behalf of the species, the planet and the oceans as life source, thank you for caring.
Same goes to you too, "Anonymous". I had not seen that one before, shiver. Thank you.
Having an off and on dialogue on the homefront this morning, was awakened by news of 10 mile long oil plumes which seemed old news until I saw what he was talking about, undersea. Its going from bad to worse. And worse. Apparently these new plumes are suspected to be a result of dispersing Corexit 9500, EPA emergency-approved.
You know the oft-repeated line: "Throw shit at the wall and see what sticks?"
I saw that too,its looking really bad down there, scarey.
and the same for you nina thankyou for caring for this beautiful earth
I'm sure if we had 6.8 billion ninas
wondering the earth,it would be a pretty good place.

Oh I wish. That would certainly alleviate my inner/outer conflicts. We could all just agree to be agreeable all the time and do things my way. :)
Perhaps that desire is what is driving the demons among us? Um hmmm.
Meanwhile, this Cataclysmic event we are witness to is devouring the source of life. Today the plumes (reported by the people who discovered them as being "too many to count") are anywhere from 3 miles out to right there inside the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary.
So they have a mile long tube sucking some oil onto tankers on the surface at the site of the explosion, adding insult to injury because its too little too late - they will profit anyway even while the oxygen is depleted. This really is profit from genocide.
Meanwhile #2, Heathrow airport was shut down last night from ash clouds. It appears to be back in service at this writing.
Maybe there has not been a decent investigation of these traveling ash clouds from Iceland yet. What would we find?
"We're dancing on the ruins of the multinational corporations" - so sang Casey Neill many years ago, in the spirit of Judy Bari and Bob Marley. They're both dead now, and finally the death process for the corporate devils themselves is in full-auto mode. Volcanoes in Icleand, volcanoes under the sea, and who knows what's coming next?
Rejoice, brothers and sisters, the purge is underway and unstoppable. Love those close to you, spend as much time as you can in nature, get right with your gods & godesses. The planet has had enough, she's in open revolt. Forward, into the great Kaliyuga!

DANCE ANYWAY
This morning some friends of mine dedicated the proceeds from our sunday morning dance jam, dance church we call it, towards paying the shipping cost of sending a container of bicycles, tents, seeds, tools and cooking pots and utensils to Haiti. They raised $1450, better than three times the normal till. The container is already filling up with donated items.
Many of those same people turned around and performed, cooked, cleaned, organized and busted butt for another musical benefit for Haiti from five in the afternoon till ten in the evening. All to send one lousy shipping container of goods to a bunch of people they never met and most never will meet. A drop in the bucket of the vast need. Smiling from start to finish.
Dance anyway....... you're going to lose in the end, but there's time to dance between then and now. Dancing is victory.
I was out of town for a week or so, finally catching up on my reading. Nina, thank you for mentioning my "The Art of War and Warring States" essay again--if victory requires knowing the enemy, and the enemy is us--woah. The oil catastrophe has already moved from 'crisis' to "oh, it's being fixed." No mention of reality--that the US pumps 4 Million barrels a day and burns 19 million, mostly on trips necessitated by the dominance of a car culture and indoor "comfort" in leaky buildings...
The "monsters" link you posted highlights the desensitization and degradation at the heart of the media and "entertainment." I continue to believe the most powerful action is to turn off the TV (or at least cable/network TV).
Maybe the second most powerful action is to grow a garden, or even one edible plant in a pot.
You continue to enlighten and impress me, Charles. My recent fave of yours has to be Charles Bacon's six degrees of dead people driving.
So here is the bottom line, until we get rid of our cars, we're enablers. We can have the shed jammed with home grown and freeze dried everything, but if a gasoline powered vehicle is our sole, dependent means of transport, we're enablers = the enemy we're blogging about. No one likes to face that one, but there it is. Globe wide Gasoholism running rampant, in denial, thinking "One day, we'll kick it" until its too late. The hour grows short.
McZilla, first, thanks for coming back, second, what a beautiful mantra, would you be so kind as to please explain what the last line means to you. I am interested in seeing how spirituality and personal philosophy mesh in the Kalimantra. I am sure they do, but your perspective will be important and helpful. Thanks.
Hi Pangolin. Sigh, there is no life, no point to the whole journey, without dancing. While I physically LOVE dancing, any kind of dancing, there are plenty of decent people who don't dance with their bodies at all, but I've noticed they dance differently, mentally, and get the same high anyway.
And then there is the group who disdain dancing completely, sad, isn't it? Last week they've been unusually disturbed by some 7 year-olds' dance recital wriggling to a Beyonce tune. Hahaha. These people will be driving SUVs straight into their graves.
Great container plan, provided the container company keeps their paws off the goods. Lock those barrels and send the keys to a local on the receiving end. Seriously.
Please read this: Jeremy Jackson talks about how We Wrecked the Ocean
I think their would always have to be dancing,..neil
That piece by Jeremy Jackson, leaves me sick at heart. And, he was talking about the damage before the oil leak. Just devastating.
I tell myself, well, this is what collapse looks like. If we expect to bring on a new reality, the old one must first disappear... but, DAMN! I did not expect that my grandchildren would have to eat jellyfish.
"This sucks donkey dicks," my dear emotionally disturbed charges used to tell me when I worked in residential treatment. They got a lot of things right.
The term "disturbed" is too loosely cast about, eh?
I like Jerimiah Wright's words concerning African American children's learning style in his speech to the NAACP: "It's not deficient, it's just different."
I don't know what to say about jellyfish other than they must be like the roaches of the sea, surviving in dead zones. We keep this up and the whole place will be a dead zone AND we haven't even worked out the problems yet! Not even close.
Thanks Freeacre. So much to do, so much to think on.
