Silber, beasts, costumes and slaveships

I'm glad to see Arthur Silber found his voice again, for however long it may last. Even though I don't know him personally, he makes you feel like you do. If you haven't visited his blog, Once Upon a time... , try to make a point to do so, you'll find it hard to make the visit brief. He doesn't have comments and perhaps its just as well. There are so many links you will have an overwhelming volume of material to consider, it may just be an exercise in repetition to comment with any comprehensive remark other than perhaps with a word that isn't in the dictionary. What he does is this: He fills in the holes where you thought you had it all figured out, and did, but could have done better if your mind was stripped of all external noise. His personal life I understand is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible actually. You can see for yourself because you will get hooked and want to read all the way through the archives, not a quickie I assure you.

There is something, hmmmm, saintly to me about people who go right to the heart of the matter without an agenda, without exaggerating or omitting crucial thinking points. It is the height of the whole Internet experience as far as I am concerned. When I say saintly, I am saying "pure", untainted, no flavorings, no e-coli. Its a quality I always look for and more often than not am bored because there is so much of nothing being jammed through the motherboards. Basically, I limit the experience to the tried and trues. Listen, on dial up you don't want to waste time.

I know, I haven't said the H word yet. I am forcing myself to refrain for a short time in an experiment to see if it removes the huge dark boulder of epic tragedy pressing on my heartstrings. It is true I placed it there and once begun, it enters the blood stream flowing to the brain where it acts as an antagonist on normal serotonin re-uptake. Without consciously realizing it we cannot avoid returning to the Polaroids of the Civil Rights era of the deep south, Strange Fruit, Tuskegee, George Wallace, Lester Maddox and his Chicken Lickin' lunch counter and the cooks given axe handles, we cannot avoid going back further to the true to life stories passed on through generations, stories of indescribable suffering. Then you go back farther, as far as you can. You can go back very far, its all there. After living our insignificant and insular lives, we awake to find its still there, costumed differently as are most things, but alive and making plans.

I've known a lot of undercover racists, those who knew better but adopted the mores of their social community for survival within the community whose leaders made their feelings clear. This is not any different than accepting never ending war as the way things are. That middle easterners are dangerous, that security enhancements are for our own good, that we are hated for our freedoms. It has NEVER sat right with me. It is illogical in fact because we are all members of the human species, just another species inhabiting the same planet with the same needs and drives. I must have missed the miseducation of the illiterates where hatred of our fellows was a required course for successful living. It has cost me, it would cost you, too, to go against the grain, to be stupid and feign ignorance, but there never was any other way possible. Not a single time would I have backed down, there was never a choice.

It seems the route racism has taken is a pretense it ended with slavery, then came the pretense it ended in the 60's Civil Rights Movement. And certainly, with a Mulatto leader, it does not exist at all, right? What will they call it when we have a GLBT leader? A Jewish leader? An Arab leader? Perhaps we are supposed to think the world will collapse before it ever gets that far? If the world does not collapse within the predictable future, we will definitely be in line for leaders of any persuasion and nationality, very likely Arab as in the last holdout for the industrial revolution. Westerners have no prejudice when it comes to fulfilling their own needs. The same can be said for psychopaths.

I'd happily end this entry on an optimistic note, but that isn't in the cards right now. What we see overall may be costumed differently, but we're still in 1604. Indeed, there are billions more bodies, but nothing really changed. As the oil depletes, the costumes come apart, the masks slip off and the rough beast is revealed lumbering among us freely, unimpeded, rampaging in riches and gloating in triumph. There are a lot more rough beasts in our overpopulation crisis. Everything multiplied while we were consuming fluff and now its ensured we consume ourselves. There appears to be no end in sight other than an act of God. Everybody in a position to reverse the tides is far more interested in covering their hides from the punitive prejudice of the 1604 community. Everywhere there are warnings and signs of things to come, if we are clear on nothing else, let's at least be clear about that. Never was there a more implosive mix than racism and the end of easy oil.

Gonaïves, January 1, 1804
Year I of Independence
Act of Independence.
Today, January 1, 1804, the General in Chief of the Indigenous Army, accompanied by generals and army chiefs convoked in order to take measures tending to the happiness of the country:

After having made known to the assembled generals his true intention of forever ensuring to the natives of Haiti a stable government — the object of his greatest solicitude, which he did in a speech that made known to foreign powers the resolution to render the country independent, and to enjoy the liberty consecrated by the blood of the people of this island; and, after having gathered their opinions, asked each of the assembled generals to pronounce a vow to forever renounce France; to die rather than to live under its domination; and to fight for independence with their last breath.

The generals, imbued with these sacred principles, after having with one voice given their adherence to the well manifested project of independence, have all sworn before eternity and before the entire universe to forever renounce France and to die rather than live under its domination.

Signed:

Maybe it was good for one night of dancing and then?

I joined PIH 30 minutes ago Nina, before I saw the link on this page.

Was surfing for a sensible sounding outfit to work with to bring health care to Treasure beach.

We call that sort of remarkable coincinence 'Kuntung' in my family. No idea where the word came from.

Surfed for quake risk in Ja. With the Cayman one and this second Haiti shake, the sort of thing that happened at Port Royal in 1692 and later Kingston 1907 is straining to happen. 1692 Was calculated at 7.5. Sand liqiuifaction being critical factor. The Kingston quake 1907 pics look just like Haiti with less people.

I'm still bearing S. Just best prepared, if one can ever be totally. Baz is right, expect the unexpected. We always seem to be surprised if the shock is great enough still.

I can only hope the Ja gov puts out the facts and prepares for what seems inevitable. Now or in decades.

Later, turey.

Thanks Dread, that means we found the PIH site at the same time. I found it on Chris Floyd's blog and began the process of imbedding the html which took about a half hour to go through all the processes. Something about our synchronicity gives rise for optimism, an added element of relief let's say.

It doesn't appear the science is developed enough to predict with total accuracy where and when a devastating quake will hit. We can get a lot of warnings, as we do, but not enough to evacuate entire regions before disaster strikes. We can know its coming, we just don't know when. It is a flaw in human consciousness to procrastinate until disaster comes to our very doorsteps, too often its too late. We can't depend on a gov to save its people, where has this ever happened? They are no more capable that we are at sovereign knowledge. And then, when the political posturing starts, they are worthless aggressors in the times of greatest need. You saw more Haitians died needlessly because the US and UN wasted two days bickering for the throne.

Ahh the tricks of mind, I'd clicked PIH from your page and it coincided with a search for health care in TB.

Kuntung not. Lost while surfing yes.

They fit the bill for TB health.

Understand if the Haiti thing is still resonating along with the Ja possibility with me and I keep on.

Say Baz, that one is very very good. An exquisite detail is in his treatment of the shoes. Almost brutal. Worn down. Many a mile.

turey, from my page? Thanks and praises.
Nothing will prevent your rebirth, you've been to the mountain and have everything to share. Its just so right, it must happen. Even if you feel hampered by a sole person's ability to make a difference, each person within your sphere has his own sphere apart from yours wherein a difference is made.
You've already illustrated exactly how that works by visiting PIH with Treasure Beach in mind. Heights.

Just wanted to say I enjoy your site and your art. I am glad I found this and the sites you link to. Nothing cool to say except to get your back on Arthur Silbur. For what it is worth he needs help in the money department, no I do not represent him, I just know this. All of us, or me anyway, are short of money but if you have any spare moola he could use some.

So, all of you, I am glad to find you.

From Steven Lendman's blog: : ... on January 12, 2010, a coalition of groups opposed to Blackwater called on Congress to investigate why criminal charges against the company were dismissed on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct. They also want to "pull the funding on war profiteers like Blackwater (and) stop them for good."

It's a tall order given how entrenched they are and expanding. In Haiti, for example, reports say Blackwater is there providing security, an indication perhaps of more contingents to follow, from them and other armed contractors, "authorized to commit violence in the name of their employers." ...

Emphasis, mine.

Hi Burnie, glad you commented. I don't doubt for a second Aurthur needs help, the timing is terrible, but isn't it always when someone needs help? Regardless, his is a situation requiring our attention and responsibility, however small, however great. If I had more information, I could be more effective, but he has not responded to me at all.
Thanks.

And ah Burnie, now that you broke the ice, hope you stick around.

Thanks

One question, I have to use SeaMonkey to comment, Firefox doesn't load tha magic word to type Ha Ha.

Again, thank you.

I notice you were wondering about the silence. I think it is merely awe in the face of vast and futile clusterfuck.

Choose a topic; Haiti, banking, jobs, climate change, medical care, bridge maintenance or the NBA. Whatever topic you choose these days seems to be ruled by incompetents who drink whiskey in pint glasses and make decisions with dart boards.

Only on the fringes are there the tiniest bits of hope showing and the bastards took the phrase "green shoots" and made a mockery of it. It's like a finding a dry mushroom in Death Valley some days to remind you that even there, the rains sometimes fall.

Damn my heart aches.

See Joe Bageant's most recent post..... work your way down to the end; it's worth it.

Even those among us who can see, who can observe the hardening condition induced by the enemies of human liberty and well being, feel powerless in the face of this darkening and omniscient order. Despite the quadrennial claims of our political parties during national election years, no savior has arrived and none is coming. No Obama, no miracle of "green science," no national genius will emerge to lead us. We have only the simple, direct, undeceived intelligence of ordinary men and women to rely upon. We must regain respect for the seemingly meager and often lonely powers an individual does have, and choose work and a way of living upon which we can all rely.

Proof, that there is no just God right here.

i look forward to following the link and reading as i have a very rainy and big winds sunday. good that i worked on the garden beds yesterday and covered them with hay.

I love todays painting...i like looking at the view the dog has..the snow on the deck and seeing it falling against the black fur...such and interesting composition, unusual angles and just enough containment to suggest more.

i dont have any thing spectacular to say; i am commenting less and less i dont have anything new to say.

other than i took to heart something you said to me last year which was "if you cant change the world, you can at least change your world"...thats pretty much what i plan to do. and thats about all i can do.

i did my H donation through Yele though the media tried to trash talk Wyclef Jean. Better than the untied way im sure who keeps like 90% of donation money with their giant bloat of ad/min.

why not give my dollars to a haitian who has been doing what he can there for long before this earthquake? it annoyed me.

wishing you all a blessed day.

I wasn't complaining about comments, just being aware that the Apocalypse is threading its way through the Earth. I'd put up a new post, but that is about all I'd be saying. Thank you Su, Chickory, for your comments on the art, the actual work is sprinkled with white glitter, a little elmer's mixed in the Chinese White.
I don't know what we're going to do now. Its easy to think its something about ourselves, just try to keep in mind, it isn't. We really are not capable of imagining evil compounding on this scale.
There is no film, no book, no history that compares.
