DEEP INTO ARTLIFE WEST

08 August 2011

one fine day, the circle will be broken

History repeats itself.
The following was #12 on Billboard in 1959:

They're rioting in Africa, they're starving in Spain.
There's hurricanes in Florida, and Texas needs rain.
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls.
The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles.
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch.
And I don't like anybody very much!

But we can be tranquil, and thankful, and proud,
For mans' been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud.
And we know for certain that some lovely day
Someone will set the spark off, and we will all be blown away.

They're rioting in Africa, there's strife in Iran.
What nature doesn't do to us, will be done by our fellow man.

Kingston Trio

Of course, the names and faces change, the agenda only sounds new, but its not.  We have serious problems that go ignored while the world continues to react to created chaos.  Even the lyrics shown above are part of the agenda, i.e.; look here, don't look over there.  It is remarkable we've come so far in spite of the real and lingering threats to humanity, isn't it.  If one single person does something wrong, creating rippling problems for others, they are hunted down and thrown into the corporate slave labor market.  If leaders in collusion with others, all of them doing things wrong, the world falls apart, you'll notice, over and over and over again.  We are expected to pick up the pieces of our lives and go on.

But this time, it really is different. There is only so much picking up the pieces we can do.  The one thing we've learned if we've learned nothing else, is it is worsening.  And now, we are disgusted with this long drawn out worsening stage.  Everything is more painful and less understood as the panicked pile onto each other's panic like Charles Graner's Abu Ghraib pile of prisoners photographed in compromising position. (Linked for anyone who was over-consuming at the time instead of waking up to the incessant filth of harsh interrogations.)

The S&P ratings downgrade  is ludicrous in its weak attempt to label for the panicked that which was already unfolding.  Its another false flag that takes us into higher inflation paying higher interest rates on the foreign loans we can't pay anymore without staged cage fights from the crazies.  What else is up their sleeve we ask since the whole scheme is stupidly transparent.

Here's Marshall Auerbach on Counterpunch:
... for the record, the S&P (along with Moody’s and Fitch) covered themselves with glory during the housing bubble, rating toxic subprime junk as AAA rated paper. Not only were the agencies politically corrupted by virtue of their incestuous ties to Wall Street, but criminally incompetent as well. ...
Definitely there will be more ugly kickbacks as dollar signs gleam in the eyes of our creditors.  Do understand though, what is happening here is not the end of the world, that comes later, as we age and evolve under roiling skies, tsunamis, mass famine and endless war because those in position to do the right thing don't do it and certainly didn't do it when the opportunity was before them, even the wealthiest and most altruistic, by default, throughout history allow evil to take its course and now it is too late.  It is too late because seven billion people is an unmanageable number and the real agenda is to bring that number down, just like an impossible debt, humanity is out of control. There are no bailouts available for overpopulation.

It is tragically amusing in a diabolical way that we are being reminded through every technological vehicle of communication that today's market crash is straight out of the 2008 playbook.  This sets us up to expect a repeat of the past three years.  Recall a few posts back the reminder concerning Stockholm Syndrome in which every simulacrum of relief is interpreted by the slaves as a kindness, an improvement in conditions and creates false hope which is false desire. And false desire, you know, is the cause of all suffering.

As long as we willingly hand over our attention to the noise, we will suffer needlessly since each journey by itself contains enough pain, sorrow, joy and glory to keep us occupied.

God help those who pay to play and may eternal fire and brimstone embrace those who lie, cheat and interfere at the expense of the innocent.

nice poem,,,,

since the invention of the printer, money has got to be the worst thing ever printed....

we can safely say man is stupid,we know this,,,,not just on a small scale either,,,could man be stupid enough to wipe himself off the face of the planet,it makes me wonder,,,I did read something about mans brain has actualy been shrinking over the last twenty thousand years, not that that really means anything,,but was man less stupid when he had a larger brain....
is mans stupidity curable..,or have we cursed ourselves to stupidity forever..

absurdly absurd absurdness

anyway I reckon I can smell another scheme coming in,a fresh one, where banksters give themselves yet more money from themselves buy new houses and government assets parks and stuff and charge everybody else interest on it,then charge us for the use of the assets that they have got off us for free,,,but they will call it a new word ....so it will all be ok nina

anyway have some love ...neil

Yes.... Nina, Bho, Su, and countless others, I love you. Trying times no doubt. I guess someday at least we can say been there and done that one.

Cling tenaciously to the truth as we know it. Our composite truth utltimately becomes the entire fabric of the truth. We at least put our heads together and tried to come up with something, no?

Everyone is leaving such great comments, thank you, I will address each of you shortly, unless things get so much farther out of control I have to make another post.

The Fireteacher and I were just speaking, initially about FLDS leader, Warren Jeffs, sex offender/pedophile, over which I was shaking my head that all anyone needs to do is start a religion. I was reminded the list of these kinds of people is long, remembering Jim Jones and Charles Manson, the real surprise is how they get and keep followers. It makes you believe in evil if you don't already. Coure, they'll have to keep Jeffs out of the general prison population and even then, he won't last long.

I believe in evil alright, all of us have seen too much for too long.

FA, that doesn't sound so random. In fact, its so perfectly stated in your book, one could get the idea something else is definitely happening. Something higher, bigger, beyond human intelligence and of course far beyond the realm of mundane coincidence.

It is now so normal for people to be bummed out, it becomes a beautiful shock when someone shows themselves to be acting without any self-profit whatsoever. You do that a lot.

Very powerful! Neil.. thank you. I keep wondering what's a matter with Saudi Arabia just a hop and skip away, of course they see it and they certainly have the money and the means, but its like they're blind or something... What are they afraid of? Famine is never an isolated situation, its a global responsibility. And sending planes with food and medical assistance is not an invitation to re-populate SA. Its got to be political, but these are trying times for the Horn where politics must be put aside. Real heroes could be made overnight, but it isn't happening, as typical of those who are in position to make all the difference and don't. Even when its the best PR move possible, they don't because they are apparently on a different planet with a different agenda.

I'm with you, Neil and Nina. The continent of Africa has always been the 'gold mine', symbolically and actually, for the archon wetiko posers forever, and their endless quest for things 'precious'. Children's lives, women's dignity, the natural world's primacy, etc. - what's really precious - have never gotten in the way of filling their soul-emptiness with useless materialism and 'power'. It ALL has to go DOWN, like yesterday! The compassionate Mother of all Life has had enough. Our outraged expressions of empathy and love DO support the Earth's and cosmic processes now happening. Not time to let up on the harmonious, resonant creativity.

We are seeing these events now and you see how they are handled, they are not handled, they are misdirected, denied, shrugged off, diversioned, molded for profit, bombed out, gunned down, thrown in the lock up and twisted into something so slimey we could never have dreamed in our worst nightmares.

For a true master,
Sitting on a throne
Is no different than
Sitting on dirt.

A true master is indifferent to the ways of society. Ambition, knowledge, and religion are equally uninteresting. Why? Because all these things are in the realm of human definition.

The holy person transcends all identity. Therefore, wealth or poverty, good or bad, violence or peace makes no difference. Dichotomies are no longer valid to such a person.

Do you find this hard to believe? The degree that you find this difficult to accept indicates the degree to which you are shackled by dualism. True enlightenment comes from understanding the oneness of all reality. Such a realization leads to a perception that all things are truly equal. A master sees nutrition and disease as the same, life and death as the same, morality and immorality as the same. If you give the masters something to eat, they will eat. If they have nothing to eat, they forget that there ever was such an activity. There is no polarity in their lives.

We ordinary people cannot do this. We make distinctions, defend ourselves and our territories. We feel safe only inside declared boundaries. This is the way we define ourselves, but our identities are also our prisons. Only a master knows the meaning of liberation and has complete freedom.

nina said...

Great contributions FA and Scrap!

For our friends on dial-up: Selections on Dominion-ism

Scrap's passage following FA's comment brings up the the question "Why does the human mind need an agenda, which is identity, at all?" It seems that whatever identity is adopted, there will always be others to condemn it unless one find themselves in the rare company of others without an agenda. There is a point eventually reached where agenda and identity are recognized as meaningless hinderances, self-created fences, barring the way of our enlightenment.

Every intimation of transcendence that is experience is one of the dissipation of the insular identity. It is as if the self were turned inside out and viewed the world, not as other, but as itself. Or rather, and this may be where many ways part in understanding, the self is absorbed into the world. This, I suspect, is the near universal experience of those that dabble in mysticism. I wonder what that might mean. But an agenda to most is a terrible thing to waste and after being caged in that trap you can not return to occurance coming of itself

On another note, the wildlife rehab is loaded these days, many bears, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, deer, prairie dogs, plus birds of all kinds. Many young ones who have to be bottle-fed, etc. The 'drought' is causing them to wander into trouble, in addition to the fires. Little girl and sister,

In the moment of enlightenment a thought arises naturally in the way of the last and same decision. The voice that states this choice may be personified although it has no source; it is the offering of the world as it concedes one is the power of its making. What does it mean to one to choose that which was already chosen?

From the beginning, the world figure cannot but promise joy and pain because it is the expression of separation – power and loneliness. One chose power and wholeness – and to not end the world dream.

Little girl, what is the Art of God? Stop and remember.

Well thank you Nina for your good thoughts about my pics :-)

I really like the new photo you have up of the Angels Trumpet ( the flower of the Datura is called by many names ). I collected seeds from wild ones growing in the desert around our home and planted them all over in our yard. There are many blooming even now. They bloom at night then wilt in the growing days heat. The flowers are magnificent!

Some type of animal or bird eats the leaves of these Jimson alot even though I've never seen who's doing it. Sneaky they are :-) I find that odd because Datura contains a strong deliriant and can be highly toxic. I've read that cats sometimes eat Datura and my neighbors lean hunter cat comes over pretty often so maybe he is the culprit :-) He does act kind of crazy sometimes. He will be friendly then the next thing you know he grabs you with his claws. You just have to be quicker than the kitty :-)

I've read that Datura intoxication creates states of mind where people have a complete inability to differentiate reality from fantasy. Thats why in the old times they used to call it Loco Weed. Skilled traditional Shamans use it, but its highly ill advised for all others. I read a story of a man that just walked off of a cliff because he thought that he could fly!

On another subject I like that painting at the bottom of your Blog page showing the woman laying down with the cute pooch. Is that a self portrait of you and your doggie? At times I'll take a nap in the afternoons and I'll lay on our couch and put a blanket on my chest and our little Miniature Pincher loves to jump up and lay there with his head up near mine like in your painting. First of course he has to lick my face for a good five minutes to show me his appreciation. I really love all of our 4 pooches. They are such great pals :-)

Regarding Scrap's posted info on Simplicity, I think this within it is the simplest way to express the concept:

" the wise man confines most of his attention to the few essentials of life, and that constitutes his simplicity "

And this below speaks to me of the idea that living a simple life provides for an atmosphere that is conducive to appreciating and taking in things of real importance like the treasure of our valued relationships, and the simple pleasure of natural beauty. Complex lifestyles to my mind tend to blind you to these things, and to other features of a more meaningful life:

" Simplicity gives....a certain kind of freedom and clearness of vision "

The mental fog of the overly cluttered life is removed :-)

The way you put it, HSW, reminds me of sailing, long distance cruising (life) where everything must be trimmed down to its bare essentials, perfectly ready always for any emergency (survival) while freeing the body/mind for the beauty of adventure (experience) and the ever-present opportunity to communicate with the Forces (spirituality). Especially at night, alone at the helm, under a vast sea of stars, when the material world vanishes and its just you and the Universe moving smoothly in tandem.

While I remember; the fence is a neighbour's. This parish is known for it's craftmanship and care.

My guys can do as well but time has become less available for detail and top quality. We try still.

I like it being from branches turey, its elegantly natural. It doesn't have a KEEP OUT feel, it feels friendly.

I like the way you put that Nina. It truly resonates with me since we ( our family ) own two sailboats, a 15 foot Potter and a 25 foot McGregor. Both of them are easy to haul and we have taken them many times to Lake Mojave on the Colorado River where we sail and camp along the shoreline.

The lake water out there is very clear and wonderful for swimming ( 80 degrees in the summer ) and boating. We will scout out some secluded cove, many times with nice sandy beaches. The nightly campfire, chats and star gazing is really great.

Our Potter is very easy to manage for one person and I'll go out by myself at night on the quiet lake under the stars and the bright moon at times and just zig zag upwind until I get a ways up the lake then turn it around for a smooth serene sail back to camp.

On the return trip, if its not too windy on those warm desert nights I'll throw out a rope trailing behind the boat and jump overboard hanging on to the end of the rope while the boat continues sailing on, the drag of your body in the water keeps it heading downwind. Just don't let go of course :-) You can lay on your back looking up as the water streaming by planes you on the surface, listen to the rushing water and watch the stars, and in this case, not at the helm :-)

This you wrote " Especially at night, alone at the helm, under a vast sea of stars, when the material world vanishes and its just you and the Universe moving smoothly in tandem " describes the feeling of it exactly :-)

Nina, I put up 10 pics from some of our trips to Lake Mojave on page 1 of my Flickr site. Sorry about the small photo file size but they are clear enough for you to see how beautiful it is out there. So many great times sailing with my wife, our two daughters ( the Munchkins ) and friends :-)

i returned from california to a drought in georgia. the creek near my house in ATL has dried to a small pool where all the last of the fish and frogs are crowded. the conversation has taken an interesting turn her - indeed this morning as my husband and i walked the dogs he discussed various economy issues to which i said that the only wealth there really is. for example, a macmansion of 700K slammed into a infill neighborhood lot is not as valuable as a shack on a creek and spring feed rivulet regardless of what various assessing pieces of paper may say. metals are important because the have intrinsic value - for manufacturing primarily. it really can be simplified. I learned long ago, on a pilgrimage across northern spain (compostela de santiago -the way of saint james) how little i actually needed. how alive i felt along in the pyrenees crossing into spain from france with only the criticals in my backpack.

I smiled reading the discussion of the painting of love between lady and her beagle - the softness of the dogs face -the fluid ears - the utter look of peace and contentment. it is masterful.

Im glad to be home, however, i am reserved in some way. very little to say and detached. is this jet lag? i have forgotten what it feels like.

Chickory, you might have a case of California fever. It is a real phenomena and will plague you for years until you return, its cyclical that way. You will return and return and the fever won't go away until you live here long enough to find the faults. Even then, it lingers. In your case, however, it will most likely just leave a permanent soft spot because in reality, you have a wonderful world already in your grasp.

Re: Cali Fever.

I STILL haven't recovered, and when I went back 2 years ago and made the trip up the PCH to the Redwoods, it dug in deeper.

Pangolin can be a good antidote for it at times.....

re: Cali Fever

As a native Californian, I can now only get the fever for the California I remember. Now when I return I mostly get sad at how it's changed just in my short lifetime. The drive between Sacramento and San Francisco used to be mostly fields and farms and open space. Now I see strip malls and housing developments and incessant billboards. As well, on the 101 going south from the Bay Area, the McMansions and new but empty commercial buildings that sprouted up like virulent weeds (though I'd prefer weeds any day), blotting out farmland.

I sometimes try to imagine what California must have looked like before the white settlers came, and I know it must have been the most magnificent paradise.

Life, once when the Fireteacher and I had to travel south on the 5, we came across a huge billboard for a notorious housing lender/builder picturing a lavish lifestyle at a waterfront mansion. The billboard was mounted high enough for all drivers to see, atop a one room hardscrabble shack, a sheet for curtains flapping in the desert sun.

I do believe you have conquered the fever!

Zider Zee, you, on the other hand, obviously suffer still. You'll note that Ms. Life has Former California Fever which is a good antidote for the general malaise, the drawback being she had to go through prolonged earlier chapters to quash it.

Now, Pangolin is an interesting subject. He has a permanent case, it appears to have metastisized and yet, is in remission fully under his control, but only when he wants to control it.

HSW, you are a pro, aren't you. I don't know how you do it, but every photograph has this glowy southwest flavor to it. Gorgeous images, each and every one.

We all need to take a holiday in Tortola and discuss sailing thrills over a Heinekin at Foxy's.

This sounds like pure heaven to me... solitude, water, night, stars... yes, heaven!
